I’ve been observing people’s reactions after the election and reflecting on how it can often divide a nation and lead to hurtful exchanges. It’s natural for emotions to run high, but at the end of the day, someone will win, and someone will lose. This is the outcome of any election—or even a game.

My son, who is very competitive, had to learn how to lose gracefully. It wasn’t easy for him, as it isn’t for many of us. But seeing a sore loser who’s hollering, blaming others, and holding grudges isn’t a pretty sight. We can all acknowledge that winning and losing are temporary states. It’s okay to feel the sting of loss, to cry, to feel bad, and even to mourn. But blaming others and saying hurtful things lacks maturity.

As an immigrant and a proud citizen of this amazing country called the USA, I feel nothing but love for our nation. No matter who holds leadership, we—the people of America—are the ones who make this country what it is. No political figure or party can take that away from us.

Let’s not forget:

We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Let’s work together to build that more perfect union, respecting each other’s perspectives and remembering that our shared values are what truly unite us.
