Dr. Michael Shea recounts events on a German U-boat during World War II that led to the capture of the long sought enigma machine changing the course of World War II. These events were told to him by his boss at the Groton submarine base, Karl Ernst Schaeffer, who had been a physician on the captured U-boat. After the war, Schaefer and Shea researched atmospheric conditions on nuclear submarines at the Groton submarine base, in Groton, Connecticut.
