At Cole’s Drug Store lunch counter, in Dedham, Mass., in addition to the usual sodas, one could order a Frappe, a Milk Shake, or a Lime Rickey. A Frappe was milk, ice cream, flavored syrup whipped in a milk shake machine. The Frappe cost about $.35 whereas a Milk Shake with milk and flavored syrup – no ice cream – whipped in the milk shake machine cost only about $.30. A Lime Rickey consisting of lime juice, soda water and sugar syrup cost about $.20. We never bought any of them anyway because they were all too expensive.
